You walk into an interview and there are 5 people at the table. The HR rep told you, the interview would be a panel style interview. You looked up panel style to figure out what that meant. You then became nervous since it would not be a 1 on 1 interview.
Why the panel style interview? The panel style interview gets all the decision-makers in one spot, and allows them all to ask the questions they want, and everyone gets the answers at the same time. This is a more efficient style, due to everyone being in one area. This can be more of a stressor for some candidates who do not like multiple people.
The key to this style, though, is that you do not have to come back for multiple interviews normally. With regular style interviews, you may have to go back for 2, 3 or I have heard up to 5,6 in some companies. That is more time to take off, to interview if you are currently employed. That is also more gas wasted and time spent in interviews. That is why I am ok with the panel style.
